Direct Energy's new terms and conditions leave me totally stunned. For example:
- Getting out of your contract in the middle of the term costs $200 per month remaining for "administrative costs", plus paying out part of the cost of the gas you would have used over the remaining term - which is at minimum 7 cents/m^3.
- My favourite part has got to be: "If any part of this Agreement is illegal or cannot be enforced, we both agree that it will be fixed to be legal and enforceable. If that part cannot be fixed without changing our intention in this Agreement, it will be removed and the rest of this Agreement will stay in effect." Translation: If we've put an illegal clause into these terms and you happen to notice, we'll just fix it instead of allowing you to terminate the contract as contract law allows.
- In my renewal package I received forms to sign up for a new plan, or cancel my contract. If I send in neither, then they will put me on a plan for 41.9 cents per m^3 for a year - this price is RIDICULOUSLY HIGH, by the way.
- The renewal package contains a pre-addressed (and prepaid) envelope for you to send in your renewal, but the cancellation form has to go to a different address.
I'm so cancelling these jerks.
